Tammy Jean Bennett (nee Mackey) of Marshfield, Missouri, passed into her eternal reward on January 30, 2026, at Cox South Hospital, surrounded by the loving embrace of her two sons. In her final hours, she was enveloped by close family, covered in prayer, and comforted by scripture. She was 67 years old.
The daughter of Jerry Dean Mackey Sr. and Mary Margaret Mackey (nee Wester), Tammy grew up in the Marshfield area. After graduating from Marshfield High School, she attended Vennard College in University Park, Iowa, graduating with a degree in Music Arts. Later she obtained a degree in Nursing from St. John’s and began her career.
Tammy excelled in her chosen profession thanks to her intelligence, drive, and abundant compassion. As she advanced, she became a Registered Nurse, serving in the Emergency Room at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield before fulfilling her dream role as a flight trauma nurse on the hospital’s helicopter. This position was truly the highlight of her career and brought her the greatest fulfillment.
Though she achieved many professional accomplishments and accolades, nothing brought Tammy more joy than her family. She was a proud and loving mother to her sons, serving as their biggest supporter. She spent countless hours cheering at football, soccer, wrestling, and theater events—her voice always the loudest in the crowd.
In Roger, she found her true partner. They married in 1995 and were rarely apart, traveling together, building and running a business, and continually working to create their dream home in Webster County. They shared many happy hours with their pets and especially enjoyed the playfulness of their goats, who provided endless entertainment.
Her greatest joy came when she became a grandmother. She glowed with pride as she watched her grandchildren grow, cherishing every moment of play, laughter, and love. She constantly poured herself into others and showed exceptional kindness. She will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband; Roger Bennett of Marshfield, MO, her two sons; Ryan Cowen, his wife Jessie, and their daughter Avery of Nixa, MO, Tyler Cowen, his wife Whitney, and their two sons Noah and Caleb of Ozark, MO, her stepson; Cody Bennett, his wife Haley and their three children Emma, Rex, and Harper, of Flippin, AR, her sister; Tona Mackey, and Kevin Lasater of Columbia, MO, and her brother; Jerry Dean Mackey Jr, and his wife Carol of Marshfield, MO, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Day Funeral Home in Marshfield, MO on February 5, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Southwest Missouri Nurse Honor Guard. |
